How about a new newsgroup where you put all the messages from newbies who keep ranting about the obvious, like "it's different from what I was using before" and "it's a big, bloated and slow (like a beta)". Maybe title it the "Duh now" newsgroup or something. That way we don't have to manually mark them as Not Useful and Ignore in the other groups.

Duh newsgroup
Splash down some mouthwash Puppy breath, before you dare call computer veterans "newbees"

I wasn't talking about veterans. I was talking about newbies who always come into these groups and state the obvious.

And maybe put any message with uppercase opinions about about HOW MUCH THEY LOVE/HATE some irrelevant product in there too.
(Now I'm ranting about rants. Must be getting cranky in my old age).

It's true that many newbies, who may also be PC experts, will have common initial feelings about Vista. However just seeing how common the negative response may be can be useful in itself.
It's aklso the case that they are not close to the forest as they may actually see trees the Vista veterans may miss.
This is a general Vista forum, and that's probably where such messages belong. It might make sense to create a new forum for more expert discussion, but that's a different matter.

It's just all so boringly predictable. People always like what they already know. Duh, there's nothing new to learn, and the product (probably) works.
It's too bad there isn't a way to create filters or message rules for newsgroup message bodies. Then jaded old cranky guys like me could just delete or hide messages that contain words/phrases like:
love
hate
slow
bloated
sucks
sux
!!

But getting away from trite posts, I demo'ed Vista to my two teenage kids. Their reaction was unanimous - "Put that on my computer". I didn't, but they want me to.

Just curious Puppy Breath - assuming we all started as"newbies" - how did you get from being a "newbie" to a "jaded old cranky"?

The concept that there's nothing new to learn is unfortunately incorrect...

Of course it's not true in a general sense. But it is true if you just want to keep doing the same things you've been doing, in the same way you have been doing them all along. So it's true in that context.

My point is that is almost always something to learn from new users, newbies or not.

OK. But it seems like a bit of a non-seq to the concept of resistance to change based on having to re-learn something you already know how to do.
